 The Kentucky Derby

The Kentucky Derby is an annual horse race run in Louisville, Kentucky, United States, nearly always on the first Saturday in May, and culminating the two-week-long Kentucky Derby Festival. The race is a Grade I stakes race for three-year-old Thoroughbreds run at Churchill Downs over a distance of one and a quarter miles.

In 1935 and 1957, the lowest temperature recorded at the race (which is held every year in the first week of May) was 47 degrees. In 1959, the temperature reached a maximum of 94 degrees.
